Celebrating International Women’s Day in Paddington

On the 8th March 2019, we are proud to be joining in with celebrations for International Women’s Day, honouring women’s achievements.

Last year, as part of this important day, we also commemorated 100 years of women’s suffrage. The Suffragettes movement to win women the right to vote was a hard-fought campaign and it was their actions that inspired International Women’s Day, the first of which officially took place in 1911. Across London and right here on the streets of Paddington, Suffragette demonstrations took place, demanding justice and equality. Read the women’s suffrage timeline and related articles via the British Library website. To honour the actions of the Suffragettes and as part of this year’s International Women’s Day, our team at Paddington Hotels  have put together a selection of things for you to do in the local area, that celebrate inspiring women.

Visit some public art installations

Whilst exploring Paddington you are likely to come across several of the areas inspiring public art installations, including Liz West’s sculpture, Colour Transfer, located along the underside of Paddington Central Westway Bridge. Learn more about this immersive artwork and how it has transformed the space here.

Sample a slice of heaven at Mille Patisserie

At the newly opened Mille Patisserie, you can try a selection of traditional French pastry with a Japanese twist, carefully created by talented chef Yulei Yang. A delight to the senses, be tempted by their selection of French cake Gâteau Mille Crêpes here.

Book a Pilates lesson

Passionate about Pilates, a private lesson with Yujin Choi in her home studio will leave you feeling stimulated both physically and mentally. Delve in to this unique style of exercise here.

Relax at a concert

As part of the vibrant concert diary organised by St. James’s Church in Sussex Gardens, sit back and relax during Angelina Kopyrina’s piano recital, with pieces by Beethoven, Chopin and Rachmaninov. For more details on this free performance taking place on the 28th March 2019 at 1pm, click here.

Visit Paddington Street Gardens

Take a leisurely half hour stroll to the neighboring district of Marylebone to discover Paddington Street Gardens and London’s first professional female landscape gardener who designed them. Fanny Wilkinson created this beautiful green space in a former cemetery with plenty of benches for you to enjoy a much needed rest and take in the beautiful surroundings. Learn more about the gardens and their history here.

These are just a small selection of the great things you can enjoy across Paddington, and with many more events taking place across London to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, we hope you will join us for a vibrant city break.
