Festive Things To Do In London

Although Christmas is almost upon us, there is still time to fit in some Festive activities during your stay with us in London. No matter where your day takes you, you’ll be greeted with Christmas cheer wherever you look as the city’s festive celebrations are already in full swing.

We have handpicked just a few of our favourite festive things for you to plan during your stay in Paddington this winter.

 Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park –  London’s biggest Christmas experience is within walking distance from us here in Paddington! Within just a 10 minute walk, you can shop for handmade gifts, indulge in some festive food and drinks, go ice skating or even enjoy one of the towering rides that shine their lights across the city. You can expect to see Hyde Park beautifully transformed with sparkling winter magic, open 10am-10pm every day except Christmas Day until the 5th January.

Ice Skating at the Natural History Museum

Set against the backdrop of the Waterhouse building, the Ice Rink at the Natural History Museum is one of the most magical places to take to the ice this winter. Not only will you be able to enjoy a day exploring some of nature’s defining moments indoors, you can show off your skills (or lack of) while admiring the stunning exterior of the building to the tune of your favourite Christmas carols.

Experience the thrill of skating surrounded by fairy lights nestled in frost-covered trees, with the smell of mulled wine in the air. It’s the perfect place for a photo to capture the moment to savour for the rest of the year.

Whether you can dance on ice like Torvill and Dean, or your efforts resemble more that of Bambi, a visit to the Museum’s Ice Rink is a must this festive season. Other notable ice rink locations are at Somerset House (Waterloo), Alexandra Palace (Alexandra Palace Overground) and Tower of London.

The Christmas Lights in London

Brighten up those dark winter nights and visit one of the many spectacular lighting displays that kick off the Christmas season in London. We don’t even want to think about how much those lights cost, but what we do know is that the feeling of Christmas in London under the lights is one that you’ll find in few other cities across the globe.

You can enjoy the stunning overhead decorations while shopping around Carnaby Street – the stunning colour & shimmering sequins bring the area to life in a unique way, while the historic narrow streets will provide that intimate feel for a perfect way to spend an evening with a loved one.

For the most spectacular lights however, few places in London compare to the flying angels above Regent Street. These lights actually inspired the Christmas lights craze across the city, as the annual switch on has been a feature of Christmas in London since 1953, with live performances and celebrity appearances to mark the occasion.

Other notable mentions include the lights at the historic Covent Garden, the Kew Gardens Light Show and the Enchanted Woodland at Syon Park – perfect for a family evening together.

No matter where you find yourself in London, you’ll never be too far away from the festivities, and when you stay with us in Paddington, you’ll be right in the heart of it all! Visit our website for availability or get in touch with our team at info@paddington-hotels.net.
